Ruth Caroline Swenson, 90, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 1, 2012 on All Saints’ Day. She died peacefully and without pain in the loving home of her daughter, Caroline Miller, of Two Harbors MN. Ruth was born March 15, 1922 in Yorkville IL, to Erick Edwin (May 18, 1894-June 17, 1979) and Anna Katrina (nee Thompson) Ostrom (April 9, 1897-March 9, 1985). In August, 1941 she was married to Warren L. Swenson of St. Charles.
Ruth was known widely as a kind and gentle person, especially sensitive to the needs of the elderly. She was instrumental in founding the Golden Fellowship of First Baptist Church of Geneva during her 50-year affiliation with that church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother faithfully remembering and praying for her family.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Caroline Miller of Two Harbors MN, and her three sons, John of Littleton CO, Richard (Linda) of Menomonie WI, and Don (Jo Lene Thoele) of Rantoul KS. She has 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Romelle) Ostrom of Burlington IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clarence Ostrom; her sister, Amy Verhaeghe; her infant brother, John S. (December 9-12, 1918) and infant sister, Esther E. (February 3-6, 1924); her son-in-law, Bernard (Wad) Miller; and her great-grandson, Nico Everett Swenson.
The funeral will be Friday morning, November 9, at the First Baptist Church of Geneva (2300 South Street)—visitation from 9:00-10:00, service at 10:00, and internment to follow at Westside Cemetery, Geneva IL.
