OBITUARY
Henry Lafayette Volkening was called home to be with Jesus on the morning of December 19th, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
The son of Fred and Pearl (Westcott) Volkening, Henry was born August 7th, 1924 in his parents bedroom on the family farm at the crest of the hill on Burlington Road.
Henry married Martha Louise Spangler on October 5th, 1946. Henry and Martha worked the family farm on Burlington Road with their sons and daughter. Henry was an excellent farmer and compassionate dairyman that cared for and treated his animals very well.
After he retired from farming he worked for Curtiss Breeding Services in Elburn and later at the
Merri-Lee Shops in Geneva.
Henry knew and loved Jesus and was a man of conviction. He enjoyed talking with people everywhere, no one was a stranger to him. He always loved a spirited discussion and a challenging game of chess. He had a playful nature and a gentleness of spirit. He will be sorely missed.
Surviving are Henry’s children, John Volkening (JohnMichael Schuh) of Chicago, James (Christy) Volkening of Sugar Grove and Susan Volkening of Burlington; three grand children, Jennifer (Paul) Mulder of Ozark, Missouri, Joshua (Debbie) Volkening of Sugar Grove and Nicholas (Liz) Volkening of North Pole, Alaska; and eleven great grandchildren Elijah, Luke, Grace and Faith Mulder, Annie, Katie, Ethan, Eli, Bethany and Lily Volkening, and Isabelle Volkening.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha, his parents, Fred and Pearl, his sisters, Jeanette (Dwight) Faber, Lucille Hampel, Lois Botteron, Hazel Underwager, and Bernice Laceman and his brothers, Everett (Marie) Volkening and Harold Volkening.
