OBITUARY
Gary Lynn Kolbe, age 69, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at his home in Geneva, Illinois. Beloved husband of Janet; father of Lori Sherman and Cary (Dominika) Kolbe; step-father of Amanda Sullivan; grandfather to Brittany Sherman and Lance Bandy, and Nicole and Christopher Kolbe. Dear brother of Duane (Shirley) Kolbe of Zearing, Iowa; Don (Marilyn) Kolbe of Story City, Iowa; Karen (Eric) Baker of Elmhurst, Illinois; brother-in-law Jerry Schradle of Ames, Iowa. Fond uncle and loving friend of many. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and David Kolbe, brother Delos, and sister Donna Schradle.
Gary was born in January, 1944 where he grew up on a farm in Radcliffe, Iowa. He moved to the Chicagoland area in 1960 and began his 39 year railroad career at the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. He retired at the age of 62. An avid golfer, he devoted himself to perfecting his game, achieving his best handicap of “+2” at the age of 67.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State Street, Geneva, Illinois. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Yurs Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org) or CNS Home Health and Hospice (www.cnshomehealth.org).

"I remember Gary when I was a kid watching the C&NW softball team. My dad was a great pitcher. However, if the ball was hit back to him he would always duck out of the way. Gary was his saving grace playing at short center, as he would always make the plays that my dad should have. I'm sure they are both on the same softball team in heaven!
