OBITUARY
Julius Verhaeghe, Age 90, passed away peaceably surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva.
He was born March 16, 1919 in St Charles, son of the late Rene and Julia Verhaeghe.
Julius, along with his four brothers, spent his early years working the family farm west of St Charles. However, when World War II came, he answered his country’s call and served with honor in the US Army. During this time he also met and married the lovely Jane Collins while in basic training in Bainbridge, Georgia. Following his service, Julius returned to St Charles to again farm in addition to being employed by the Kane County Highway Dept. Later, having learned this new trade well, he started his own business, Verhaeghe & Son Blacktopping Co in 1961. He remained active in the business until his retirement in 2000.
Julius and Jane were well known for their exceptional dancing skills and thru their association with the Aurora Arthur Murray Studio, won many trophies as ballroom dancers. Throughout his life, JV was a fine man and a joyful person. He was devoted to his wife, loving to his children, and a blessing to his extended family and friends.
Julius is survived by his daughters Linda (Richard) Lewis of Geneva, Sharon (Steven) Naughton of Geneva, Dennis (Donna) Verhaeghe of Geneva, his brothers August and Rene Verhaeghe, his very special friend, Mary Pavlak, 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, his son Lavon, his brothers Joe and Henry, and his sister, Bertha.
Visitation will take place on Monday, March 8th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W State Street, (Rt. 38), Geneva, IL. A private Memorial Service will follow immediately thereafter.
