OBITUARY

William R. Helm, age 80, of St. Charles, died Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 17, 1929 in St. Charles the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Helm.

Bill was a member of the St. Charles Fire Department from 1959 to 1986 serving as Assistant Fire Chief from the late sixties until his retirement in 1986. During his time he started the Fire Prevention Bureau. He also was the Charter President of the Exchange Club of the Tri Cites and for years was chairman of the Salvation Army Bell Ringing which the Exchange Club still does. He also was a member of the St. Charles Moose. Bill was also an usher for St. Patrick Catholic Church for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Betty of 63 years. Also three children, Sherrie (Richard) Dorris of Yorkville, Bonnie Helm and Fiancée of St. Charles and Rod (Gloria) Helm St. Charles. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Also one Brother, Harold ( Ann) Helm of St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his Brothers, Henry Jr. and Duane Helm.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Patrick Church, 408 Cedar Street, St. Charles. Monsignor Joseph Linster officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery Geneva. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:00 P.M Tuesday at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles.
