Allen Morland Anderson, age 77, passed away on October 28, 2023, after a long illness.

He was born December 17, 1945 in Evanston, Illinois, the oldest of five children of Robert and Estelle (Brown) Anderson.

Allen graduated from Elgin High School (Class of 1963), Bowling Green State University and John Marshall Law School. He was a practicing attorney in Elgin for 28 years before his appointment as an Associate Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit in 2000. He enjoyed his service as a judge until his retirement in 2012.

Allen was also a teacher throughout his lifetime. He taught fifth grade for three years at Coleman in Elgin while attending law school at night. He also taught paralegal classes at Elgin Community College over the course of his career as a lawyer. He served as a judge for the students participating in the Moot Court program at Larkin High School.

Allen volunteered his time for many years on the Human Relations Commission and New Century partnership for the City of Elgin. He also volunteered in several capacities at the Kane County courthouse after retirement.

Above all else Allen loved his family. He married the love of his life, Reda, in 1970 and adored his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his home in Lake Geneva. He was an avid golfer and softball player well into his 70s.

Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lareda (Hill) and sons Matthew and Christopher (Brannon). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Emme and Beckett Anderson and dear siblings Robert and Nancy.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Robert and Estelle, his sister Margaret and brother William.

A Celebration of Life Open House is planned for Sunday, November 12 from 2-5pm at The Herrington, 15 S. River Lane in Geneva.

Private services have been held.

"I work in the assisted living where Allen was. As I have told people before back in the early 2000s Allen was the judge who did my divorce. He was so kind to me. I will always think of him with great respect and admiration"

"I grew up two houses from Allen and his four siblings. Such a great family! Hard to lose yet another. He seems to have lived a fine, productive and happy life."

Cheri from Lynchburg, VA

"Though Reda and I have been lifelong friends, I also considered Al as one of my close friends. I was honored to be in their beautiful wedding as well as to join them on a trip to Spain a few years later.Though we may have lived in different parts of the country. We maintained contact and whenever possible, visits.Al was an attentive husband, father, and grandfather. My memories are of a very quick-witted and intelligent man who seemed to thrive as a very gifted attorney and later as a judge. However, a round of golf at Wing Park during one of my visits will forever be with me."

Bob & Jan Janess from Fontana, WI

"Sorry for the delayed response but the Cantillon family has been out of the loop and just saw the news. We are so sorry for the family’s loss. Al (and his family) have been great neighbors in Lake Geneva. Al was always very kind, especially to my girls who are his grandchildren’s’ age. Our thoughts are with your family. With love Kathleen, Mary Ellen, Dan and Maureen Cantillon and Paul Garcia."
