Amy Newkirk (Holbo) aged 45, loving wife of Randy and mother of Reilly and Garrett passed away in Geneva, Illinois on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Amy was a mother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter, dentist, and breast cancer warrior, as well as a friend and inspiration to everyone she met. Amy will be truly missed.

The daughter of Lyle and Marjorie Holbo, Amy was raised in Lindenhurst, Illinois and was a graduate of Antioch Community High School, Truman State University and the School of Dental Medicine at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Instilled with curiosity and a love for adventure since her youth, she participated in several study abroad programs and was always up for a trip to explore and experience somewhere new. Amy’s passion for travel and generous spirit brought her skills to those in need of dental care both here in the Chicagoland area and in impoverished communities in South America. Care for veterans and families was the basis for her dental practice and she was extremely proud when she was able to call Young Dental Care of Aurora, IL her own. Her co-workers were an incredible source of support and friendship.

Amy’s adventurous spirit found a perfect match in her husband Randy. Married for 14 years, their love and devotion helped them through the good and challenging times. Blessed as parents with daughter, Reilly, and son, Garrett, Amy was always up for a camping trip, a walk on the beach, a craft or art project, family game night, or any experience that allowed her to laugh and snuggle with her beloved children. A diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer in early 2020 altered their family’s lives but didn’t diminish their love for one another. They held each other close through nearly three years of treatments–they all fought the disease with her, with support from heroic nurses and doctors both in Chicago and Saint Croix, USVI, where the family found a home away from home and a break from the daily battles of both cancer and Covid. They spent time there sailing, swimming, exploring, stargazing, and creating many fond memories that they will cherish forever.

Amy is survived by husband, Randy; daughter, Reilly (12); son, Garrett (10); father, Lyle Holbo; sisters, Jennifer (Shawn) Meyer and Carrie Holbo; nieces and nephews, Gavin, Lily, Maddie, Evan, and Allison; and parents-in-law Penny and David Newkirk. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie. The family feels blessed that everyone was able to be with Amy on her last day, surrounding her with love, support, and snuggles. Her kindness, braveness, and beautiful smile will always be remembered.

A celebration of life will take place in Spring 2023 for all of her family and friends to remember the love, laughter, and kind spirit of Amy. Funeral Services will be held privately.

"Amy was the little sister I never had but always wanted. Her smile was infectious and her laugh would fill a crowded stadium. We would go ice skating on your lake and Amy would just follow us out and we would try and get as far away from her as possible and she would always catch up. She was determined to hang out with us no matter what! Carrie, couldn't care less, but Amy always wanted to be with us. I will miss her heart, determination and wit.I am so incredibly sorry for all of your losses over the past 2 years.
