Sheila Irene Armstrong age 90 died peacefully in her sleep at Covenant Care Michaelson in Batavia IL on Saturday December 9, 2023. Born July 14th, 1933 in Evergreen Park IL to Ernest Svhela and Frances Svhela (nee Nichols). On June 7th, 1952 she married Richard Armstrong in Evergreen Park IL. Their marriage of over 66 years was founded on love and respect and grew stronger each year. Sheila attended high school at Longwood Academy and attended Mundelein College. She worked in customer service throughout her life working at Wiebolt’s, First Family Mortgage and Elkay.
Sheila loved people, her family, and learning about all manner of things. She enjoyed nothing more then family gatherings and long conversations. Getting together with friends for a game of cards was a lifelong passion. As an avid reader she would juggle reading many books simultaneously. Sheila enjoyed opera, plays and movies which she would enjoy with her grandchildren. Sheila also never visited a beach she did not enjoy whether on Lake Michigan, Florida or the Caribbean.
Sheila loved the Lord and faithfully attended the Catholic Church. She was a member of St Bede’s, Christ the King, St. Scholastica, St Patrick and Holy Cross parishes. Sheila and Richard raised their family throughout the Chicago area and enjoyed living in Chicago, Lombard, Woodridge, Edgewater in Elgin and the Holmstad in Batavia.
Sheila is survived her daughter Julie (Dan) Daly of Naperville, IL; her son Richard Armstrong JR of Wheaton, IL; her daughter Frances (Tony) Maurer of East Grand Rapids, MI; her granddaughter Mari (Jacob) Armstrong-Hough of Sharon, CT; her grandson Jordan Armstrong-Hough of Sugar Grove, IL; her granddaughter Grace Maurer (Kade Maycroft) of Grand Rapids, MI; her granddaughter Lydia Maurer of East Grand Rapids, MI; and her granddaughter Natalie Maurer of East Grand Rapids, MI. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Lawerence Armstrong of Batavia; her daughter Suzan (Paul Hough) Armstrong of Geneva, IL; and her granddaughter Madeline (Julius) Daly Leterman of Chicago, IL.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 Main Street in Batavia on Thursday December 21st, 2023 at 10:30AM with Father Orabutt officiating. After the service a celebration of Sheila’s life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center (https://gifts.mdanderson.org).
