Michael John Gran, 58, of Elgin and St. Charles, passed away on July 14, 2023. He was born on August 15, 1964, in Aledo, IL, as the youngest of four children to Dennis and Ida Gran.

Mike was a hardworking, loving husband, father and grandfather (Pappy) with a big sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.  His quick-wit and one-liners will be dearly missed.  Never empty-handed, he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren whenever he saw them.  He was always ready to lend a hand and helping others brought great satisfaction to him.

He worked for over 30 years as a union carpenter, building many of the bridges in the St. Charles and Chicagoland area.  Mike overcame many challenges and injuries in his career always defying the medical odds with his incredible will-power, resilience and drive to provide for his family.

An outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed hunting, camping, boating and oftentimes fishing in heavy storms because “that’s when the fish are biting.”  He was an excellent angler and passed down his enjoyment of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren.

A lover of animals, Mike had a fondness for his Weimaraners and English Bulldogs. His bulldogs, Maggie and Tillman, were a few of his many pride and joys as were tooling around the yard, house projects, and working with his hands in his spare time.

Mike met and married the love of his life, Kimberly Gran, in 1985 and moved to St. Charles to start and raise a family. Mike and Kim were married for 33 years and raised 3 children.

He is survived by his children Courtney (Dan) Force, Brittany (Mike Ruck) Gran, and Timothy Gran; seven (soon to be eight) grandchildren; Addison and Kolton Von Eyser, June Force, Luke Ruck, Emmie Force, Caleb Force, Ella Ruck, and Baby Boy Force; wife Kimberly Gran and sisters Katie (Jim) Baker and Annette (Mitch) Sills. He is preceded in death by his sister Linda Rosenstiel, and his parents, Ida and Dennis Gran.

A visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E Main St, St. Charles, IL 60174 on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 12-2:30 PM with funeral services following immediately after.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Stroke Foundation in Mike’s memory.

"Mike will be missed. He was always moving around & fixing things, or playing in the yard with the grandkids. He taught Dan building skills to replace the deck & windows in their house. He was always cheerful. Lastly, We thank Mike for raising a beautiful, intelligent & empathetic daughter, Courtney (my loving daughter-in-law). May he rest in peace."
