Bob Burr was born in Geneva at the old Community Hospital on April 25, 1931 to Ralph and
Clara (Keller) Burr. He lived his entire life in St. Charles. He thought it was the most beautiful
place on earth and loved it dearly.
He grew up as a member of St. Patrick’s parish with his large, extended family and graduated
from its grade school. From there he went on to Marmion Military Academy, attended St.
Benedict’s in Atchison Kansas and graduated from Marquette University with a degree in
Business. Bob made many lifelong friends along the way. He was blessed with many of them
into his later years.
After college Bob joined the Army during the Korean Conflict and spent two enjoyable years in
what was then the Territory of Hawaii.
In 1961 Bob married Marge Choffin and they soon had two daughters, Mary and Peg. Bob spent
his entire career as an independent insurance agent in St. Charles, beginning with the Ralph E.
Burr Insurance Agency (Insure with Burr to be Sure!) and later changing the name to Burr
Insurance and Real Estate and finally merging with Bill Cavanaugh Insurance.
In his spare time Bob enjoyed carpentry and built furniture for his daughters, showing them how
to work with hammer, saw and nails; and how to fix things for themselves. He was a great
handyman who could fix anything. He also loved gardening and especially loved growing trees.
He was a fine swimmer who spent many summers working at Pottawattamie Pool in his youth.
Bob is survived by his daughters Mary Burr and Peg Burr, nephew Paul (Kathy) DeRaedt of
Cary, nieces Mary (Danilo) Sirdar and Anne DeRaedt of Mesa, AZ, several grand nieces and
nephews as well as many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marge, his parents and his siblings Marcella DeRaedt,
Reverend Thomas Burr and his infant brother Ralph Frederick.
In your charity please pray for Bob or offer a mass for him. His favorite charity was Marmion
Military Academy in Aurora: https://tinyurl.com/2p8f8an7. Planting oak trees in his memory
would also be a fine thing to do. And remember “to water it deeply and saturate the roots really
well

"I remember Bob, as a cousin in his late teens, who was such a gentleman (even then) in entertaining his little pesky female cousins. My sister (Karen now deceased) and I would come (with parents Bee and Ed Keller) to visit Aunt Clara and Uncle Ralph. We looked forward to seeing Tom and Bob. They would play games in the backyard with us and pretend they were enjoying themselves. I'm sure this was an effort for them both, but I thought it was lots of fun. In later years, Bob and I became close cousins. He was always interested in my family, as I was in his."

"I am saddened by Bob's passing, because he had such a profound and positive impact on his daughters, my friends Mary and Peg. I enjoyed hearing about stories of his life in the military and in St. Charles, and his sense of humor. The family is in my thoughts and prayers. And yes, tonight I pointed the cutlery in the "down" position in the dishwasher, or otherwise risk court martial by Bob."
