"I met Paul early in 7th grade. He took me under his wing and quickly became my best friend. With inside two months time I started playing guitar and Paul was the drummer; we were a band. Paul was a great drummer; he had that internal metronome. We played some private parties in 7th and 8th grades and eventually got a bass player, Dennis Hood. John Cairo also joined the band on guitar. We were called “Brer Creek” and we played Round-About and a couple of private gigs along with some church group gatherings. Our most legendary gig was playing at a Girl Scout camp; the young girls really liked us!Paul was also great at working on cars, including on his Ford Falcon and my Chevy van. Mostly we just hung out. I remember his parents, Jorgen and Ebba, fondly. They were old school Danish folk who provided great food and wonderful Danish cookies. Jorgen and Ebba were great parents to Paul; Paul was a great son to them.I have so many special memories of growing up with Paul. He is the fingerprint of my adolescence. My time with Paul in Junior and Senior High School and when he visited me at U of I shaped who I am. Paul was Best Man at my wedding. He will always be with me."
