Obituaries

James Donald “Don” Price, age 84, passed away on February 19, 2026.  Don was born on December 2,1941 to James Earl Price and Mary K (Culp) Price at Copley Hospital in Aurora, IL.  On December 26,1964 at Plano Lutheran Church Don married his Yorkville high school classmate, Judy Leifheit, who he started dating on the senior class trip right after graduation.

Don graduated from Yorkville high School in 1960 and then attended Northern Illinois University. After graduation in 1964 he began teaching at Haines Middle School in St. Charles.  During his 35 years teaching at Haines, he returned to NIU to receive his masters degree.

Don loved teaching and that included coaching Tri City Soccer for many years while sons, Scott and Jason, were playing that sport. He also always attended all sporting or musical events where his sons or grandchildren, Evan and Anna, participated. Don enjoyed repairing and refinishing antiques. He also used his woodworking skills to create art as well as large building projects. Much to Don’s surprise, he became a gardener and actively participated in gardening and landscaping projects.  He even enjoyed numerous garden walks, including ones in his own yard!

For most of their 61 years of married life the Prices traveled the country camping.  Their various fifth wheel trailers and Don’s big Chevy trucks made trips to south TX for the winter months for 20 years. Their last RV trip was to AZ for the winter in 2023.  Sons and then grandkids also participated in many RV trips around the country.

Don is survived by his wife Judy of St. Charles; sons Scott Price of Geneva and Jason Price (Lacey Williams) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Evan Price and Anna  Price of St. Charles; brother Jack (Carol) Price of Yorkville; brother-in-law Jim (Barbara) Leifheit of Davis, IL and many nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mary K. Price; parents-in-law Russell and Irene Leifheit and brother Michael Price.

A memorial service for Don will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1145 N. 5th Avenue, St. Charles, IL on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jared Olson officiating.  Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be private at Union Cemetery.
