Obituaries

Susan Nelson, age 89, died at the home of her daughter on Monday, April 27, 2026. She was born on July 12, 1936, in Elgin, Illinois to Dorothy Nelson Tyner and James Tyner.

Sue graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Barton Nelson on December 29, 1955. After raising her children, Sue began a career as a travel agent and worked at Wilson World Travel and later at Travel and Transport, where she became a manager specializing in corporate travel. She was listed in the 1991-92 edition of Who’s Who of American Women.

After her retirement, Sue pursued a passion for gardening and raising orchids, and travel with Bart. She enjoyed genealogy, reading about American history, and daily crossword puzzles. Sue was a past member of the Batavia Orchid Society and The Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her children Betsy Anderson (Richard) of St. Charles, IL, Eric Nelson (Alissa) of Batavia, IL and Matthew Nelson of Batavia, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ian Nelson, Nicole (Larry) Scullark, and William McGinty, and her brother Paul (Dianne) Trautt.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bart, her parents, and her sister, Elizabeth Romano.

A Celebration of Life is being planned in the near future. If you wish, donations in Sue’s memory can be made to Anderson Humane in South Elgin, IL.
