Obituaries

Joanne Margaret Olson, age 92, passed away September 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She was greatly loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their families as well as a wide circle of friends.   She was the daughter of Lawrence and Nettie Russell.

Joanne was born on December 15, 1933, in Waukegan, Lake County, IL.  On December 19, 1954, she married the love of her live, Doyle LaVern Olson in Community Christ Church in rural Marseilles, IL.  She was a graduate of Liberty High School, and received a Bachelor of Education degree from Illinois State University and a Masters of Education from National College of Education, Evanston, IL.  In 1955, Joanne and Doyle moved to Aurora, IL and in 1958, they moved to St. Charles, IL.

Joanne enjoyed a career teaching in special education at Munhall Grade School and St. Charles Junior High School. Joanne was very active in many community organizations such AAUW, Questers, and PEO plus two book groups.

Joanne will always be remembered for her love of family and her strong determination in all facets of life.  Joanne always took the high road and had a place at her table for everyone- friends and family; she had a big heart.  Joanne loved to travel with Doyle, listen to live music, and to live life to the fullest.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Doyle and her son Steven.  Joanne is survived by her sons; Jeff (Dawn), Bruce, daughter; Diane (Steve Haskin), daughter-in-law Jo Ellen Alberhasky, six grandchildren; Kevin Haskin, Melissa Quick (Paul), Kyle Haskin (Brenda), Molly Gibbs (Jesse), Nicholas Olson, Paige Olson; 12 great-grandchildren Logan Haskin, Jordan Quick, Aria Quick, Tehilla Quick, Aseph Quick, Gideon Quick, Landon Gibbs, Layla Gibbs, Waylon Gibbs, Caius Haskin, Iris Haskin, and Elias Haskin.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7:00 on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E Main St. (corner of route 64 & route 25).  Funeral services will be at 10:30 on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 40W4541 Fox Mill Boulevard, St. Charles, IL 60175.
