Janet Bowman, 87, died Tuesday, June 7, surrounded by her loving family. She was greatly loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their families.
The daughter of Arthur and Anna Osburn, Janet was born on November 19, 1934 in Chicago. She grew up in Maywood alongside seven brothers and sisters. On November 17, 1956, she married R. Allan Bowman and moved to South Elgin, where they raised their six children.
Janet spent many years as a homemaker, until she took over ownership of the family business, Schreck Kitchens, when her husband Al passed away. She also volunteered at the Valley Sheltered Workshop in Batavia for 35+ years, where she was an active member of the Valley Sheltered Workshop Board, serving many roles, including president.
Janet enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She brought joy to everyone’s life, and she loved being a mother, especially to her son, Michael John.
She will forever be remembered for her kindness, and the unconditional love she brought into everyone’s life.
She is survived by daughter Denise Rich and sons Robert (Lucy), Thomas (Kimberly), Michael, Craig (Heidi); 11 grandchildren — Shane Filczer, David (Lauren) Park, Bobby Bowman, Kristen (Conrad) Kozuch, Robert (Mayra) Bartosiewicz, Melissa (Peter) Strybel; Emily, Shannon, William, Claire and Elizabeth Bowman; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Al, in 1986 and her daughter, Cynthia, in 2014.
Donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Valley Sheltered Workshop, 325 Main Street, Batavia, Illinois 60510.
Visitation will be held from 9-11am on Thursday, June 16 at Yurs Funeral Home 1771 W. State Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134. A mass will follow at 11:30am at St. Peter Catholic Church 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva, IL 60134.
