Obituary

Barbara Jill Mullen (nee Jonasen), age 74, of Geneva, Illinois, passed away October 22, 2021, surrounded by family. She fought a long, hard battle with melanoma that had metastasized to her brain. She left behind her husband of 54 years, John Mullen, her son, Todd Mullen (Laura), daughter Stephanie Kornak (Mike) and her grandchildren, Kevin Real, Hanna Real, Jake Mullen and Hailey Kornak. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leif and Shirley Jonasen, and her grandson, Brennan Kornak.

Jill grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois, and attended Michigan State University, where she met John. They married June 17, 1967. Jill and John have lived in Michigan, Utah, Indiana, and many areas of Illinois.  They made friends wherever they went. They settled back in Geneva, Illinois, in 2020, to be closer to their children.

Jill was an amazing listener, loyal friend, great cook, and organizer. She had an amazing work ethic; in fact, she often forgot to relax. She was the consummate hostess, making sure everyone always had a wonderful time.

Most of all, Jill loved her family. Her death left a huge hole in our lives, including the lives of her siblings, Joyce Donagen, Erik (Karen) Jonasen, and Jenny Kulik (Rick).

A Celebration of Life will occur at Riverside Receptions, 35 North River Lane, Geneva, Illinois on November 3rd at 2:00 pm. The service will be followed by a reception to celebrate Jill’s memory. Dress is casual.
