Barbara Szczupider née Ostrega was born on April 21, 1948 in Odporyszów, a small village located in the south of Poland. In January of 1963, Barbara moved to Chicago with her parents, sister and brother, where she became the president of the Polish Club during high school. Upon graduating, Barbara landed a job at the then-prestigious National Association of Real Estate Brokers, a role that allowed her to travel independently throughout the United States, including far-flung places such as Washington DC and Hawai’i. She met Henry, the love of her life, while on a family visit to Poland, and the two married in Odporyszów in 1971.
They welcomed daughters Margaret in 1976 and Monica in 1978. Barbara was a loving wife, a strong mother, and a doting grandmother. Barbara is survived by her mother Emilia, daughters Margaret and Monica, grandchildren Kyle and Lily, siblings Wanda and Marion, and many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank, and Henry, her devoted husband.
The memorial service will be officiated by Deacon Jim Means but will be kept private in light of the ongoing pandemic. Interested friends are welcome to Zoom in (email mszczupider@gmail.com for more details) and/or attend an outdoor burial service on Monday, December 13th at 10:00 A.M. officiated by Reverend Tri Van Tran at Little Woods Cemetery, St. Charles IL 60174.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Barbara’s name.
