Carol Mae Lorraine Westhoff RN, 81, of St. Charles, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 2nd.

Leonard and Lorraine Blom welcomed their first daughter Carol Mae on April 30, 1937 in Hancock, MI.  She grew up with her younger sister, Mary Ann, in Hancock along with aunts, uncles and cousins nearby. Years later after moving to Illinois for a job, Carol met, fell in love with and married Alex Westhoff on June 11, 1960, in Elmhurst, IL.

Carol was a devoted wife to Alex for 58 years, loving mother to Susan Burke of Elgin, IL, Karen Martin (Gregory) of Champaign, IL, Peter Westhoff (Nina) of St. Charles, IL, Fred Westhoff (Sarah) of Fisher, IL, and Kurt Westhoff (Dawn) of DeKalb, IL, doting Grammy to 18 grandchildren and big sister to Mary Ann Otto of Greenleaf, WI.

In 1979, with all of her children in school, Carol was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse by obtaining her RN at the age of 42.  She practiced as a nurse at Community Hospital in Geneva, IL, continuing with the organization when it became Delnor-Community Hospital. She retired in 1999.

Carol was a loud and proud St. Charles swim parent of 5 from 1970 to 1987. Her cheers and smiles graced many at swim meets. In her later years, she became an avid traveler alongside Alex during their retirement.  They ventured to Europe a number of times enjoying guided Italian church tours and Rhine River cruising.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Lorraine, her sister Loretta and Carol and Alex’s two babies in Heaven.

Visitation will be held on March 6, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Yurs Funeral Home 1771 State Street (RT. 38) in Geneva, IL.  Carol’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father David A. Peck as Carol passes thru St. Peter’s Pearly Gates at 10:00 am on March 7, at St. Patrick’s Downtown Church in St. Charles, IL. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery 15510 Winfield Rd Wheaton, IL.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Masses for Carol are requested, to be offered at St. Patrick’s Parish, St. Charles, IL or donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN in Carol’s name.
