Connor Dunleavy, 24, was unexpectedly called home into the loving arms of our Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021, after succumbing to injuries sustained in an accident.  He was greatly loved and cherished by all who knew him, friends and family alike.

Connor is the beloved son of Brian and Jeanne (Asp) Dunleavy, born on January 30, 1997, in Palos Heights, Illinois.  He attended Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois, where he excelled both academically and as a member of the Flannigan Rifles drill team armed exhibition squad, winning the national title in his junior year, 2014.

Connor went on to the University of Notre Dame where he pursued his interest in the biological sciences, along with continuing his passion in the study of English literature.  While a student at Notre Dame, he was a participant in the Medical Brigades, and spent his freshman year spring break helping bring medical care to the underserved towns and villages in Nicaragua.  He also volunteered at the Logan Recreation Center in South Bend, Indiana, and spent many Fridays after class bowling with the disabled members of the Logan community.  The summer of his junior year he volunteered his time to serve the homeless in South Bend, helping people write resumes and prep for job interviews.  Connor graduated in 2019 after completing a double major and receiving a Bachelor of Biological Sciences along with English.  After college, Connor completed a graduate program at Loyola University in Chicago, where he earned a Master of Arts in Medical Science.  His drive and determination culminated in his acceptance into Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in August of 2021.  He enthusiastically embraced the SSOM community and all it had to offer.  His joy was palpable in his pursuit of his lifelong dream of becoming a physician.

Despite his rigorous academics, Connor always maintained a healthy work and life balance.  He spent long hours reading, working out at the gym, and most recently perfecting his golf swing.  He enjoyed spending many hours with family and friends on the golf course, and rarely passed up an opportunity to play 18 holes, more if time and schedule allowed!

Connor is survived by his parents, Brian and Jeanne (Asp) Dunleavy, his sister Sarah (20), grandmothers Florence Dunleavy and Barbara Asp, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He joins his grandfathers, Joseph Dunleavy and Fred Asp, in eternal life.  He will live on in the hearts and minds of so many who knew him as he traveled life’s journey, albeit too short, it was well lived.

Condolences
