Craig Scott Coker, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 25 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born to Leslie Raymond Coker and Suzanne Ogden Coker on August 2, 1950 in Oak Park, Illinois. When his mother remarried Richard J. Raysa, Craig was honored to become part of a loving blended family. On October 19, 1984 he married Peg Klim in Geneva, Illinois.

Craig served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a proud member of St. Charles VFW Post 5036 where he had many loyal friends.

Craig was happiest when he was on the water whether he was trolling for 25-pound salmon on Lake Michigan or ice fishing for perch on Clear Lake in Wisconsin. He was an avid Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks fan.

Craig was a good father and participated in many of his son’s activities. He was a Cub Scout pack leader, he chaperoned Scout camping trips, and taught youngsters how to ski, which allowed them to earn their snow sports merit badges. He also helped coach St. Charles Little League Baseball.

He is survived by wife Peg, son Tom, sister Leslie Coker, sister Mary (Jimi) Raysa, and many cherished family members and friends. Peg extends her heartfelt gratitude to those who provided their loving support during Craig’s illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Rick and Bill Raysa, and sister Betty Raysa Nilsson.

Visitation will be held from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, April 6 at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State Street in Geneva. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, April 7 at Hosanna! Lutheran Church, 36W925 Red Gate Road in St. Charles.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Hosanna! Lutheran Church or a veteran’s charity of your choice.

Dennis Larson from Saint Charles, IL

"I only knew Craig for a short time through our comradery at the Veterans Center and phone calls after he could no longer attend. We enjoyed reminiscing about healthier times here in this life and about the eternal life soon to come. He was thankful that his eternal situation was not dependent on his own works but rather on what Christ has already done for him on the cross. He expressed regret that his life here on earth did not always reflect Christ's love. He expressed appreciation that Peg and Tom were there at his side at home and that Peg was by his side during his hospital visits making a special effort to remain knowledgeable about his condition and treatments. I will miss my phone calls with you, Craig, but will see you soon."

Leslie Coker from Madison, WI

"I always admired my brother, he was very talented ín a lot of ways. He was also the reason I went into Systems Engineering. Although we had lost touch, I'm glad for the last few times we talked before I moved to Madison.I'm thankful he was together with family at the end."
