Duane Martin Billek died unexpectedly on Monday, October 25, 2021, of an unknown and sudden illness. The son of Joseph and Irene Billek, Duane was born March 23, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Charles High School, Elgin Community College and was a graduate of Northern Illinois University. Duane married Trisha Gretchen Zika on April 29, 1989, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in St. Charles, IL.
As a child, Duane enjoyed his summers in New Buffalo, MI where his family owned a lakeside cottage, a tradition he continued with his wife, children and friends. Duane was a fun-loving guy who always had a big smile, a kind word for everyone he encountered and an occasional mischievous twinkle. His charm, humor, and good-natured skepticism endeared him to many and earned lifelong, loyal friendships.
Duane spent his career in the printing and advertising industry, primarily as a project manager, where he earned the respect of his co-workers and customers for his knowledge, diligence and calm demeanor in a demanding environment.
Duane was a man of many crafts and talents, all enabled by his strong appetite for learning and hours of research. A great day for Duane would be trying a new barbeque recipe on one of his multiple grills for friends or family. Of course, all of his meals would be accompanied by his delicious mixed drinks poured over “good ice” or, if you were lucky, his homemade ice. In the spirit of his father, Duane was a versatile handyman in and around the house. He loved a good project, was inspired by the challenge, and always completed the task with lots of pride, although sometimes a bit annoyed that he could have done better.
Survivors include his wife, Trisha, daughter Samantha Jo, son Jack Martin, sister Judy (Eddie) Gracyas, and brothers Dave (Karen) Billek and Dan Billek. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph, his mother Irene and nephew Jordan Billek.
A visitation will be held from 3-7pm on November 12, 2021 at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 West State Street, Geneva, IL 60134.
