Edwin Richard Herdes

Edwin Richard Herdes, 96, of Geneva, passed away on January 22, 2026 at his residence at The Landings in Batavia, IL. Ed loved numbers and dates and this was the same day when he married his late wife Nina Anne Herdes 76 years ago.
He was born on May 25, 1929 in Joliet, IL, the son to the late Bernard and Vida Herdes.
For the last 42 years, Ed was a dedicated member and volunteer for the Fox Valley Dog Training Club, serving as a Board member, a class instructor and mentor to many of the current instructors. He trained 4 award winning tracking, utility, and obedience Gordon Setters: Oscar, Cutter, Ottis, and Oppie. He was also a longtime member of the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church. A resident of Geneva, IL since 1978, he had a wonderful circle of friends and neighbors and enjoyed spending time with them. Ed’s sense of humor was unmatched and his jokes and stories will live on through the generations.
He was a loving husband to the late Nina Anne Herdes for over 71 years and devoted father to Pam (Ron) Matthews of Austin, Texas and Deb (Dave) Ringland of Metamora, IL. Ed was a very proud of his four grandchildren, Adina (Steve) Gillespie, Brent (Paula) Ringland, Berry Matthews, and Margaret Matthews. He was a fun great-grandfather to his three great-grandchildren, James (Catrina McCoy) Gillespie and Nicholas (Johanna) Gillespie and the late Micah Ringland. Ed truly valued his entire extended family.
