Elaine L. Brown, 94, formerly from Sioux City, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026, following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3101 Hamilton Blvd, Sioux City with Pastor Ezra Grabau officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Cherokee Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa.
Elaine was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Edwin and Esther Brailey. She graduated as valedictorian from Omaha Technical High School and attended the University of Omaha (Business Administration) graduating with a Bachelor’s degree. She met her future husband, Milton, in an evening Algebra class while in college and they later married. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage. They had one son, Kenneth.
During her career, she taught Math and Business classes for many years at several schools in Sioux City – North Junior, North High, East High, and West High School. Prior to that she taught high school Math and Business in the Edinburgh and Rochester, IL school systems.
Elaine and her husband were world travelers and visiting five continents and all 50 states. Following Milton’s death, she continued to travel with friends and family to the remaining two continents. Other interests included volunteering at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, the Nature Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, and at the Center for Siouxland where she prepared income tax returns. She was also a past member of the Sioux City Planning and Zoning Commission including two years as Chairman. She also enjoyed her membership in the American
Association of University Women, Sioux City Retired Teachers Association, P.E.O, Sioux City Woman’s Club, and Faith Lutheran Church. She also loved playing Bridge and 500.
She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Teresa), two grandchildren Alexander (Bridgette), and Christina (Martin), and three great grandchildren, Oliver, Emmett, and Genevieve. She is also survived by two brothers, Edwin and Everett, three sisters-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Esther, her husband Milton, two brothers Earl and Eugene, a sister Elinor, and an infant great-granddaughter, Vivienne Hope.
Donations in Elaine’s memory may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Sioux City, Iowa.
