Garry Alan Schalk, age 76, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 26, 2025. Garry was a loving husband, devoted father, uncle, brother-in-law, and a proud grandfather. His kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Garry is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia; his daughters, Lisa Cooper (Mike), and Julie Bogosian (Chris). Garry was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Maggie, Daniel, and James Cooper; and Olivia Bogosian; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Christy Erlinger, and his nieces Nicole Roman (Derek), and Jennifer Pezl (Ross).
Garry was born on September 12, 1949 to the late Elmer and Helen Schalk. He grew up in Des Plaines and moved to Prospect Heights, Illinois when he was 10. Garry attended Immanuel Lutheran for grade school. He was drafted by the army at the age of 18 and served in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, he met Cindy and they were married on May 4, 1974. They moved to Algonquin in 1977, where they raised their daughters. Garry worked as a heavy equipment operator for the operating engineers, and was honored as a 45 year member of the IUOE Local 150 this past October. He loved to be outdoors watching the birds and wildlife, or working in the farm fields. He enjoyed spending time with his family and has many fond memories of his travels over the years.
Visitation and a celebration of life will be held on March 22, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to Noon, with service to follow, at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 West State Street, Geneva, IL. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
