Gerald “Jerry” or “Bud” Chartrand, 89 of Elgin IL. Passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025 at Crescent Care Nursing Home.
Gerald (Jerry) was born on 9/28/1935 in Flint Michigan, to the late Ruth Chartrand (Wilkinson) and the late Jerome Chartrand. Jerry served as a Marine during the Korean War. He was a proud veteran and supported other veterans and his community by joining the VFW, Marine Corps League and Sun City Marines. He volunteered for the annual Toys for Tots drive and retired American flags for the Elgin Township.
Jerry enjoyed playing guitar and banjo. He loved playing for his family and friends and would often get everybody involved by encouraging others to play along and sing well known folk songs. He was also very proud of his handyman jobs and would often be found working on projects around his home, including helping take care of his neighbors lawns.
Jerry is survived by his 5 children, Robert (Julie) Chartrand, Paul (Claudia) Chartrand, Mike Chartrand, Julie (Steve) Cihlar and Janice Howell (Chartrand); grandchildren, Shaun Chartrand, Michael Chartrand, Ryan (Amanda) Chartrand, Nathan (Amanda) Chartrand, Stephanie (Mike) Mullen, Loren (Kenny) Lee and Jordan Howell. Siblings: Doug Chartrand, Daniel (Sheila) Chartrand, Rosemary (Jerry) Burns and Darlene (Pat) Boggs.
