Harold D Meisenheimer passed away on July 12,2023 at Greenfields of Geneva in Geneva, Illinois. The son of Crockett A Meisenheimer and Marie (Hodge) Meisenheimer, he was born on July 28, 1937 at Carbondale, Illinois.
Harold grew up in Chester, Illinois where he met his future wife Ruth Wiebusch at St John’s Lutheran School. Harold and Ruth were married on August 29, 1959.
Harold served in the US Army and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Missouri Science & Technology in Rolla, Missouri. He earned a master’s degree in science from the University of Illinois prior to beginning his engineering career.
In 1966, Harold co-founded the engineering firm Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc in Carlyle, Illinois. They grew to have affiliated offices in St Louis, MO and Libertyville, IL. He served as partner for 40 years prior to his retirement in 2006.
During his career, he also served as Vice President of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, District Trustee of the Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association and was a member of the Central States Water Pollution Control Association.
Harold was a member of the Carlyle chapter of Rotary International for 50 years, serving in various capacities on the board. He also served on the board of Lutheran Child & Family Services. He was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle where he served stints as elder and chairman of the congregation.
In addition to his beloved wife Ruth, he is survived by his daughter Karen (Jon) Britt of Grapevine, TX and son David (Anne) Meisenheimer of St Charles, IL and grandchildren Matthew Britt (fiancee Ellen), Geoffrey Britt, Mary Jane (Drew) White and Alison Meisenheimer (fiancee Justin). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles D Meisenheimer.
Harold loved Southern Illinois and Carlyle Lake and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and boating. Harold and Ruth raced sailboats competitively in the inaugural era of the Carlyle Sailing Association. He was a private pilot and an accomplished trumpet player with a deep love of Dixieland jazz music. But Harold mostly loved spending time with Ruth and his children and grandchildren and his friends. Memorial services are pending.
