It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Gene Helm, announce his passing peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday June 23, 2018 at the age of 86. Harold will be remembered and loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his loving wife of 62 years Patricia Helm. Harold was born September 14, 1931 to Henry and Elizabeth Helm of St. Charles IL. Harold lived life to the fullest leaving an amazing Legacy. He loved to make people laugh by telling jokes and he was the master of giving nicknames to people. He would just have to look at you and he could come up with a nickname that would fit perfect. Harold was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all. First and foremost he loved his family with all his heart. Harold served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed for 40 years at the Geneva School District retiring in 1995. One of his favorite jobs was working at the school district for many years driving the school bus. He loved all the kids and the kid loved him back. Harold also worked 38 years cleaning the Geneva Public Library. He believed in working hard to provide for his family. He had a great love/hate relationship with the Chicago Whitesox. The only fault Harold had is that he loved and forgave those who liked the CUBS!! Harold always looked forward to spending his summers at the family cottage in Hayward, WI. Harold had a passion for fishing and hunting. He loved being on the lake and walking the field for pheasants. Harold left behind his loving and dedicated dog “STUMPY”. Stumpy will definitely be lost without you Harold.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Helm of St. Charles. His children Cindi (David) Stevens, Ricky (Janice) Helm, Shelley (Charlie) Wiggins, Lena (Kelsey) Kwidzinski, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents Henry and Elizabeth Helm, his loving son Larry Helm, and his 5 brothers; William Helm, Duane Helm, Henry Helm, Donald Helm, and Robert Helm.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 28th at 10:30 A.M. at the Yurs Funeral Home 1771 W. State St, Geneva, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the Funeral service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva. Contributions to the Geneva American Legion Post #75, 22 S 2nd Street, Geneva, IL. 60134 would be appreciated.

"I am so very sorry for your family's loss. Harold was probably one of the nicest men I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I had two brothers with Muscular Dystrophy and Harold was their bus driver for many years. He was always so joyful and uplifting for the boys with the ability to put a smile on each of their faces every morning. He was also my bus driver when I was in middle school and was my source of strength amongst childhood bulling on the bus about my brothers. I will always remember him for his great kindness and his smile."
