Harold Richard (Dick) Pottker, Jr. passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, May 26,  2023. Born in Chicago on December 8, 1931, Dick was a resident of Elgin for the  past 26 years, prior to that Elk Grove Village where he and late wife Suzie (2014) raised their three children, Cindy (Bill), Jim (Lori), and Jan. Dick and Suzie were  blessed with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The couple were  set up on a blind date, engaged a week later, and married on April 24, 1954. They  had been married for 59 years when Suzie passed one month shy of their 60th anniversary. In May 1951 Dick applied for and was hired for employment with  United Airlines at O’Hare Airport. After a few months of working, Dick took leave  from UAL and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving two years. He was  assigned to ready torpedoes on a submarine, the USS Sennet. He would often  fondly reminisce about his time in the sub. He was Honorably Discharged in 1953 and returned to United where he worked for 40 years, ending his long career as a  Ramp Supervisor. In the early 1970’s Dick and Suzie were invited to a friend’s boat  docked at The Abbey on Lake Geneva. After a full day of boating and a tour on the  beautiful lake, they were hooked. There was a boat for sale on one of the piers  and they bought it. After many years, four different boats and too many  memories to list, they ‘retired’ from boating in 2002. Retired from United, and  boating, Dick soon found a passion in firearms. He belonged to the Aurora  Sportsman’s Club where he joined a group of men and would participate in many  firearm disciplines, his favorite being Skeet Shooting. He never lost his passion  for shooting; however, he was forced to stop due to getting on in years. The past  few years he has enjoyed ‘going’ to Church on YouTube on his television, his  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his daily 4 o’clock five-ounce glass of red  wine ‘with’ Mom. Dick was predeceased by many family members and friends.  He is survived by his sister, Nancy (Bruce), in Mesa, Arizona, his children, and  grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart  Association.
