Herbert Armand Strasser, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at his home in Elburn, Illinois, with family and friends around him.
Herb was born and grew up in Chicago, attending Chicago public schools, where he was president of both his eighth grade and high school graduating classes. At Harrison High, he was not only the president of his class of 800+, he was also voted one of the top 10 seniors by the student body. He attended Ohio State University on both athletic and academic scholarships graduating in December 1953 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He has been a fiercely loyal Buckeye ever since–particularly when it comes to football games with archrival Michigan. In college, he met and married Sylvia Pasque; they had three children–son Dick, daughter Crae, and daughter Kelly.
Professionally, he spent 40+ years as an insurance broker and financial planner, representing multiple companies, winning a large number of awards, and, most important, making fast friends of the vast majority of his clients. He was a lifelong learner, avid reader, hunter, and fisherman, and collector of everything from music, to books, to duck decoys, to art, and more. And let’s not forget tennis – it was a sport he loved, and he played it most of his adult life, right up until four or five years ago.
Divorced in 1971, he remained a bachelor until 1997, when he married Susan Hartline Barr, with whom he spent 22 happy years. He is survived by wife Susan, son Dick, daughters Crae Strasser Borsom (Bob) and Kelly Strasser Brennan (Tom), stepdaughter Julie Barr Keith, cousin Beverly Bernstein, half-brothers Herbert J. and Robert Strasser (Cindy), half-sister Marilyn (Erwin) Schaeffer, brother-in-law Ned Hartline (Debbie), twelve grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
A Memorial Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Yurs Funeral Home, W. State Street, Geneva, IL 60134. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 12:30 P.M. at the funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Garfield Farm Museum, 3N016 Garfield Road, St. Charles, IL 60175.
