Jane Ann Briner, 76, of Geneva passed away at 1:20a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at Delnor Community Hospital.
Jane was born on November 5, 1945 in Streator, Illinois, to John Raynold and Gladys Lucille (Birtwell) Durree.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years who was the love of her life, William Mark Briner. Her memory will be carried on by her two children, Molly (Jason) Keppler and Zachary (Amanda) Briner as well as her sister Rebecca (Mark) Manigold. She is also survived by her grandchildren who she loved and adored. They are Evan, Maxwell and Madeleine Keppler of Barrington, Illinois and Chase and Claire Briner of Geneva, Illinois. In addition, she is also survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins who meant so much to her. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Durree.
Jane spent her early years living farm life and was a proud member of the 4-H club. She graduated from Streator High School in 1963. Jane went on to nursing school and graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois in 1966.
On September 11, 1966 she married her high school sweetheart. Her husband had graduated from college and joined the Air Force and this sent them to live in Puerto Rico from 1968-1971. While there, Jane taught childbirth classes as a volunteer, took a few flight lessons and then became a nurse at the Ramey Military Hospital. Upon moving back to Illinois after their time in Puerto Rico, she went to work for Sherman Hospital and became head surgical nurse from 1973-1976.
Outside of her family, Jane would consider one of her largest accomplishments to be opening her own business in 1976. She and her husband ran Persimmon Tree in Geneva, Illinois for decades and eventually turned it into Shoppes at 127. Until the time of her death she enjoyed interacting with customers, creating displays and being involved in the details of running a small business. In addition, she frequently donated her time to numerous community events, chaired the Geneva United Methodist Church building expansion and chaired numerous art shows for charitable organizations. Jane was a hard worker who loved to explore new opportunities in the business world while also being the most loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was selfless in all realms of her life.
Her family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Delnor Community Hospital for the exceptional care of her as well as VITAS Healthcare that was able to provide hospice service to her.
In honoring Jane’s wishes, her remembrance will be private.
In lieu of flowers and for anyone who would like to honor her memory, she requested donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) or Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

"We are so sorry to hear about Jane’s death Bill. She was such a wonderful woman and you two were great neighbors for all of those years. Mikey said to me that he is sad about Jane and she was always so nice to all of us. She was loved and will be missed by so many."

"I send my heartfelt condolences to her family and all who had the opportunity to know her. I have only known her for a short while (a few years) as a vendor in her shop, however, I had the blessing of seeing her gifts, and her love for what she had in her family, her store and so much more. She will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her."
