Growing up he attended St. Helen Catholic school, St. Ignatius College Prep (class of 1955), and DePaul University. John proudly served as a MP in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. John was a purchasing agent and later owned a commercial maintenance business. He was an avid railroad and vintage aviation enthusiast, skilled at building scale models, and a WW2 history aficionado. He read daily, played solitaire, word games, and rarely missed episodes of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and classic television/radio programs.
John met Carol Ann (nee, State) in 1974, uniting in holy matrimony May of 1975 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Northlake, Illinois. During their long marriage, John and Carol were inseparable. They are forever an example of true love and importance of family. John always participated in his children’s scholastic and music events, and especially enjoyed coaching baseball. In retirement, he enjoyed travelling the country with Carol, and spending time with his precious grandchildren. His kindness and generous spirit touched the lives of countless people. John’s legacy of loyalty and strong values leaves a lasting impact to be remembered for generations to come.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Carol Ann, daughter Wendy Christine (Brandon) Gary- grandson John of Geneva, Illinois, son, Thomas John (Natalie) Krygier- grandchildren Madalyne and Russell of Yorkville, Illinois, nephew John R. (Kristi) Pokornowski, and niece Barbara. John cherished all his extended relatives, dear friends, and the everlasting memories made.
