Katherine Paula (Hutter) Coyner, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 10, 2022, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Kathy was born November 24, 1943 in Spokane, WA to Carl and Frances (Kalkwarf) Hutter. Kathy was raised in North Riverside, IL, graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1961, and studied at Valparaiso University, where she was a member of Kappa Tau Zeta Sorority and earned a B.A. in English. Kathy’s first teaching job was at Mt. Morris Jr. High School in Michigan (1965-67). She taught at West Chicago High School from 1967-72, where she met Chemistry teacher Karl Coyner. They were married June 20, 1970 and made their home in St. Charles, where they raised their two children, Kristin and Karl. Kathy then taught at Glenbard North High School from 1978-2001. During that time she received her masters degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. Throughout her years of teaching, Kathy advised numerous clubs including the literary magazine, yearbook and ski clubs. In her retirement Kathy enjoyed opera, theater, plays, book clubs, church fellowship and glass blowing with her husband. They joined Friendship Force International where they hosted international visitors and met many new friends while visiting other countries. Kathy is survived by her daughter Kristin (Bruce) Dickerson of Roswell, GA, son Karl of Brooklyn, NY, granddaughter Sophia Dickerson of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by her brothers and sister-in-law Kenneth and Melanie Hutter and Carl Eric Hutter, nephews Kevin (Jessica) Coyner, Patrick (Molly) Hutter, and David (Ilona) Hutter, niece Sarah (Randy) Buitendyk, and special exchange student “daughter” Sophia Thomaschke (Andreas) Henn and their children of Cologne, Germany. Kathy is preceded in death by her husband Karl and parents Carl and Frances Hutter. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles. Visitation will be held before the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
