Kermit Kirby passed away Saturday, October 8, after a years long battle with dementia. Kermit was a kind-hearted and very generous man who was very proud of his rural roots in Kentucky and Tennessee where he spent his childhood. He was a graduate of Gamaliel High School and of the University of Louisville. Kermit spent the majority of his working career in the battery industry including many years as the Plant Manager in Geneva. He was a well respected businessman who was on several boards and also served as the Geneva school board president for a time. He was an avid and well renowned pilot in the area and also enjoyed reading books in his spare time. Kermit especially loved and adored his many grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Maxine, his daughter, Debbie (Tom) O’Malley, his son, Bob Kirby, his grandchildren, Chris (Joe) Pressey, John (Nicole), Matt (Faith), Dan and Tim O’Malley, and Ryan and Aaron Kirby, as well as two great granddaughters, Sophia Pressey and Charlotte O’Malley, son-in-law Mike (Yishan) Zander, and many other loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Zander, his brother, Carlene, his nephew, John and his parents, Chalmer and Hazel. He will be missed by many friends and family. A private family service is planned.
