Loretta Kinsloe Prentice, age 88, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

She will be buried alongside her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Loretta was born on July 27, 1934 in Paducah, Kentucky and grew up in Dayton, Ohio. She attended Fairview High school in Dayton Ohio, graduating in 1952. She studied Chemistry at Earlham College and graduated from the University of Memphis in 1956 with a degree in Mathematics. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority.

Upon graduation, she relocated to Ft. Walton Beach Florida, taking a position as a computer programmer with the United States Civil Service, working at Elgin Air Force Base. It was there she met her husband, Lt. Col. John Prentice.

Loretta, John, and their children moved many times with the Air Force, living in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Vailsgate, New York, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Beavercreek, Ohio, and Shalimar, Florida before settling in Lake Zurich, Illinois in 1977. In Lake Zurich, Loretta taught mathematics at the local junior high school. At age 47, she became a widow and continued to work for companies including US Gypsum, Applied Learning, Kemper, and Zurich Insurance, until her retirement in 2001.

She remained in Lake Zurich until 2010, and enjoyed volunteering at the local senior center. In 2010, Loretta moved to Geneva, Illinois and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Joseph Prentice (1934-1982), her father, George West Kinsloe (1901-1990) and her mother, Evelyn Grigsby Kinsloe (1910-1999).

She is survived by her three adult children Eric John Prentice (Janet) of Stockton, Missouri, Laureen Prentice Barnes (Richard) of Elmhurst Illinois, and Valerie Prentice Aiello of St. Charles, Illinois, along with seven grandchildren: Joseph Carnell (40) and Marie Prentice (35) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jordyn Kidd D’Arco(31) (Paul) of Plainfield, Illinois, Daryl Barnes (27) (Adam Vocalino-Szymanski) of Lombard, Illinois, Teagan Barnes (25) (Ryan Nudd) of Villa Park, Illinois, and Nicholas Aiello (22) and Carmen Aiello (19) of St. Charles, Illinois. She has 2 great grandchildren: Sydney D’Arco (5) and Oliver D’Arco (3).

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by the staff at Bickford Senior Living in Aurora and Angels Grace Hospice.

Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, March 27, 2023 at Yurs Funeral Home 1771 W. State Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
