Batavia, IL – Margaret M. Lorden (nee Shackelton), age 59, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at her residence with her loving husband by her side.

Margaret (Peggy) was born on June 25, 1960, the youngest of six children to the late Caroline and William Shackelton. She was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Throughout her life, Peggy’s passion for helping others led her to pursue a long career as a nurse. Peggy loved to travel, spend time with her dogs (Daisy, Lucie, and Sophie), enjoy the outdoors, garden, and play games with family and friends. Peggy was married to the love of her life, Daniel Lorden, for 37 years. The couple had three children Christopher (Katie), Bryan (JoAnna), and Jeffrey. She is survived by four grandchildren William, Benjamin, Luke, and Taylor. She is further survived by her siblings: Maureen Shackelton, Kathleen Shackelton, Eileen Zdanowski, William Shackelton, and Timothy Shackelton; and sister- and brothers-in-law: William Lorden, Patrick Lorden, Linda Mull, John Lorden, and James Lorden.

Peggy spent the past seven years battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The disease progressed over the years, yet she never lost her desire to live life to the fullest. Peggy spent these past years advocating for those currently battling ALS and those who may be impacted by it in the future. While the disease progressed over time, Peggy continued to let her love for family and friends keep her motivated to push through each day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), 300 Technology Square Suite 400, Cambridge, MA 02139.

Visitation services will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State Street in Geneva, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 Main Street in Batavia, IL.

"I'm so very sorry for the family’s loss of sweet Mama Peg. What a spirit she had through this difficult illness. Your family is the picture of grace and strength. How lucky I am to have known her. I’ll continue to pray for you all as I have through these years."

Whitney Johnson from Winfield , IL

"Dan & family, I am so very sorry for your incredible loss. Peggy truly was one of the best nurses I’ve ever worked with and her wit & laugh is what helped make our difficult job something to look forward to. We would find ourselves in the craziest situations and somehow always end up laughing until we were crying. I am so glad she once gave me the recipe for her yummy cinnamon coffee cake because I’ll always think of her when I make it! 🙂 She will be greatly missed!!"

Joan Skupien from Mesquite , TX
