Marion Fick of Geneva, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 10th nearing her 106th birthday. Marion lived a very full and very long life. She was an infant during World War I and the Spanish flu epidemic and a teenager during the Great Depression. She lived through the anxiety of being a new mother during World War II And the agony of hearing that her husband had been shot and seriously wounded in the battle of Saint-Lo. Her beloved husband, Robert, survived the war and they would go on to enjoy 68 wonderful years of raising two sons, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, attending adult education courses here and abroad, wintering in Arizona and hundreds of other activities that make up a full and meaningful life. Blessed with good health, Marion maintained her driver’s license until her 100th birthday.
Marion Fick (nee) McCulla, born May 31, 1917 in Chicago, was one of three children of David and Margaret McCulla. She spent most of her childhood in Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park High School. She had a strong interest in music and drama, but had a true life-long passion for baseball and the Chicago Cubs. As a youngster, she once snuck into the hospital room of an injured Cub and 95 years later was thrilled by a callout during a Cubs broadcast on her 105th birthday. Marion worked for Jewel Food Stores in its Chicago personnel office where she met her husband, Robert. They had a great life together until Robert’s death in 2008.
Marion is survived by her two sons, Bryn (Suzanne) who reside in Michigan and Glen (Lucy) who reside in Illinois, her grandchildren Robert (Laurel), Daniel (Barbara), Amanda (Benjamin), and Lok-Yan (Michael), her four great grandchildren, Anna, Caroline, Owen and Hana, and her niece Judith (Robert). She is predeceased by her brothers William and Harry.
The family would like to recognize her two principal caregivers, Precious and Carolyn, for their steadfast devotion and affection.
Marion requested that there be no service or memorial following her passing.

"Marion will be in my life forever. Living forever in my thoughts and in my memories. She will always be my best friend, and I will always carry a part of her with me through life. I will always be that same kid at her dining room table, eating the school lunch I forgot at home as we played solitaire together. She will always be my Marion, and I will always love her with my whole heart. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful lady."
