Mary Finneran Curtin, beloved wife of James, loving mother of Kevin, passed away on
December 10th, 2021.

Mary loved people, she loved her clients, colleagues, friends, and family. Once you met her, you were in her club, and under her umbrella. She loved openly, loudly, and always embraced you for yourself. For those of us that we were blessed to have Mary in our lives, she was an incredibly special person, and she will be deeply missed.

As many know, Mary loved fashion, especially hats. She owned many and wore many different hats in her life. There are countless pictures with Mary in her hats. Whether it was a sports cap while cheering on Kevin at his football and basketball games, a wide-brimmed hat shading her from the sun at the beach, or a stocking cap on a cold day. Below the hat were those sparking blue eyes and the season’s latest color lipstick from Chanel or Lancôme. Mary wore many hats in her life, and whether it was her work, friends, family, mom, or wife hat, she always loved her people.

Mary proudly wore her work hat for 35 years. She was joyful and successful during her long career as an Investment Advisor. She loved her clients and her colleagues. She was the consummate professional who served her clients with an undeterred abidance to the “Golden Rule”. Relationships at work evolved into her extended family, including weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, and graduations.

When she wore her friendship hat, she usually accessorized with a scarf and big hoop earrings. She had a gift for making friends and was loyal to the many friends she had. Whether you were Rockin’ at the Lochen, having lunch at the Italian Village, or just hanging out, it was a guaranteed good time. She was a great friend, who had great friends. Support from her family and friends never stopped, and she savored all the notes, the weekly flowers, the phone calls, and texts. She could not have fought this battle without this support.

Now to the family hat, Mary was the glue that kept the family connected. She was a loving sister to her brothers Dennis, the late Douglas, and her sister Patricia. Mary was also a loving sister-in-law to Kitty, Kathy, Cathy, the late Mary Ann, and Jolanta. She loved her brothers-in-law John, Patrick, and Michael. Mary was the favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was the keeper of birthdays, holidays, and confidences. Her nieces and nephews would certainly attest to this, as a call or card from “Ta”, as she was affectionately known, would make your day. Mary loved her Newfoundland, Rosie, and cat, Tinker, who lived under the bed.

Her favorite hat to wear was in her own home, as the wife of Jim and mother of Kevin. While Jim was honored for his acts of heroism at work, he was Mary’s personal hero. She loved her husband and was deeply grateful for his devotion to her. Their love and commitment to each other, and Jim’s constant care and attention, especially during her illness, was a testament to their love. She loved and supported her son Kevin with all her heart, and she was proud to be his mom.

Mary lived her life with lots of humor and an infectious laugh. If there was ever a measure of a good and full life, Mary checked all the boxes. Remember her, and your memories of her, with a smile!

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. Between 7:00 to 7:30 P.M. there will be a time to share and few words in Mary’s memory at Yurs Funeral Home Geneva. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church 400 Cedar Street St. Charles. In lieu of flowers please  make a donation to the Chicago Fire Department Widows and Orphans Fund, 20 S. Roseann and Bob Erikson from Geneva, IL

"We met Mary, Jim and Rosie at the Batavia dog park when "The Rose" let our dog ride on her back to shore while swimming in the pond there. Mary's laughter while watching that scene was contagious!! From then on, we had a bond that grew over the years. Mary's love for life and for those she knew was apparent. Her humor was abundant and she could have done stand-up comedy easily. We always knew when Mary had been to the boutique dog store because Rosie would be wearing a new collar, either according to the season or just because Mary wanted her to be a fashionista! Mary would always instruct Jim which collar to "dress" Rosie in for the day....and he complied happily with a grin! Mary was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Our love and prayers are with Jim, Kevin and all of Mary's family."

Katherine Mary (Katy) from Fort Lauderdale , FL

"Auntie Mary! I am so happy that you met my mother in college and to have had you in my life! I cannot believe that I’m sitting here writing this right now ! I love you much, and I will forever remember that you never forgot to call me every single birthday! Even when I was on charter in the Caribbean and you called late and I sat and spoke to you for twenty minutes in the wine fridge. You never missed a beat. You are such a shining bright light in any room. I remember asking you as a little girl what did you always want to be, and you said a rockstar! We’ll you’ve always been one in my book. Did you know mrs mcguillcuddy had 17 children? No kidding!! See you again one day !"
