Ralph L. “Olie” Olson, 95, passed away peacefully, on Sept. 20, 2024. Olie was a loving husband, father,
and a respected member of the Geneva community.
The son of Martha Petersen and Ebert Olson, Olie was born on Jan. 3, 1929 in St. Charles, IL. On Sept.
17, 1949, Olie wed the love of his life, Rose Emma Olson (née Pollentier). Their marriage was briefly
interrupted in 1952 when Olie was drafted during the Korean War. Following his assignment to southern
Germany, the couple were reunited and spent the duration of his service together in Esslingen, Germany.
Upon returning to Geneva after military service, Olie worked as an auto mechanic at several area Chevrolet
and Oldsmobile dealerships before striking out on his own.
Spanning the years 1960 to 1985, Olie’s Garage was a fixture on S. 8th St. in Geneva. Known for his
attention to detail, unique insight, and for maintaining an impeccably clean shop, Olie garnered a large and
loyal customer base throughout the Fox Valley. He retired in 1985 to spend more time with his beloved
wife and family.
Rose and Olie, always inseparable, enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to Rose’s passing in 2011.
Olie is survived by daughter Pam Petoskey and son Todd (Stéphanie) Olson.
A memorial visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, Geneva from 1:00 pm to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M.
