Long-time resident of Arlington Heights, Richard Kowall was born in Chicago and died on Easter
Sunday in Delavan, WI. Richard served in the 11th Armored Division of the US Army during
WWII. After the war, he met the love of his life, Elaine C. (Lang) Kowall, and married her on
June 11, 1949. Together they raised a family and celebrated 70 years of marriage.
He worked for 43 years for the National Cash Register (NCR) Corporation as a service
technician and supervisor. He coached his sons’ little league baseball teams in Arlington
Heights. He enjoyed watching baseball and football games, especially the Chicago
Bears. Another passion of his was boating and water skiing. He slalom skied until he was 80.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine, by his parents, Sylvester and Helen
(Lange) Kowalski, by grandson, Joseph Kurt Kowall, and great granddaughter, Avery Rann.
He is survived by his four children Richard J. (Barbara) Kowall, Robert (Audrey) Kowall, Linda
(Dennis) Bell, and Janice (Brice) Soltys, 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church,
2900 East Main Street, St. Charles, IL 60174. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
The Funeral Mass is at 11:00 am. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
