Robert Earl “Bob” Wood was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He passed away at Greenfields of Geneva, IL on April 16, 2022 at the age of 88. Bob was born to Robert and Anna Wood on October 11, 1933. He and his wife Pat met at Schurz High School in Chicago and remained inseparable sweethearts through 68 years of marriage. Together they had three children Bob (Lise) of Tucson, AZ; Ken (Chris) of Elgin, IL, and Jim (Karen) of Indianapolis, IN.

Bob always placed family first, including serving as a leader throughout his sons’ time in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Bob Wood, Bill Wood, Doug Wood, Jennifer Barton, Cyndi Mihalik, Scott Sulak, Sarah Velazquez and Daniel Wood. Bob was also great- grandfather to nine and recently became a great-great grandfather.

His sister, Mildred, and his brother, Jack, preceded him in death.

Bob served with the Seabees in the US Navy. He was a proud 30-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Captain, acting as a mentor to many before his retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of the Barrel. Bob also worked for over 40 years with the Buildings and Bridges Department of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, later the Union Pacific Railroad.

In retirement, he volunteered his time as a worker for Home Assistance Volunteer Effort (H.A.V.E.). In that role, he helped low income residents in Kane County with home repair projects.

Bob’s life of tireless work and selfless dedication to family and friends will forever serve as an example for all who knew him.

Memorial Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. – 12:45 P.M. Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W State Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134. A memorial service will follow at 12:45 P.M.
