It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ronald Connelly, 89, who
died peacefully at his home in Batavia, Illinois, after a short battle with
pancreatic cancer.
Ron was born on November 17, 1932, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Bert &
Oma (Files) Connelly. He graduated from East Aurora High School in 1950.
Following graduation he joined the Airforce where he served for 4 years as a
Gunner and Air-to-Air refueler. The Korean War had just ended at the end of
his tour, so he returned to Aurora where he began working as a lineman for
Illinois Bell Telephone Company. He worked for Illinois Bell for the next 34
years retiring as an Office Foreman at the age of 56. After retirement he
worked part time as a maintenance man for the Winfield School District.
Ron married Sandra Jean Connelly (Jensen) on 2/22/58 and had 3 daughters
together: Babette, Kelly, and Wendy. Sandra died in 1998 and he married
Norma Scent in 2002. Ron was a member of the Geneva Kiwanis club and in
his later years also became a member of the Shriners club. Ron was an active
member of the Batavia United Methodist Church since 1960.
Ron was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra Connelly, his parents, Bert
and Oma Connelly, and his sister Donna Harris. He is survived by his wife
Norma, and his three daughters, Babette (Mike) Thomas of St. Charles, IL,
Kelly (Tom) Meyer of Sycamore, IL, and Wendy (Mike) Sultaire of Winsted,
CT. In addition, he is survived by his eight grandchildren: Katie, Kellie, Erin,
Sean, Jamie, Tyler, Maggie, and Chris, as well as 7 great grandchildren and a
nephew, Jeffrey Harris of Minooka, IL. Ron is also survived by Norma’s
children, Becky Scent, Bardstown, KY, Kim (Greg) Lehman, DeKalb, IL, Susan
(Rick) Kunzelman, Geneva, IL, and Diane Woodring of Algonquin, IL, and
their children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 10:00am with memorial
service following at 11:00am at the Batavia United Methodist Church 8 North Batavia Ave. Batavia IL. Private internment to follow.
A memorial fund has been established in Ron’s name for the Batavia United
Methodist Church and the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer
research.
