Sue A. Staponkus, 64, of Geneva, IL passed away peacefully on January 7th with her loving husband Gary holding her hand. She fought a short, but hard battle and died unexpectedly due to the complications of multiple myeloma.

She was born November 20, 1953 in Oconto, WI to Don & Betty (nee Williams) Glynn. Sue fondly shared stories of working hard and playing on the family farm, riding horses, caring for the animals, and roaming with her dogs and her younger brother Lloyd.

Sue married her Oconto High School sweetheart Gary Staponkus on September 15, 1973. On her twentieth birthday, Sue followed Gary to Germany where he was stationed after the draft. Upon their return to the states, they established homes in Menasha, WI, Marietta, GA, and eventually settled in Geneva, IL in 1984.
Sue received her education from the Bellin School of X-Ray Technology and was very proud of her 25year career at Central DuPage Hospital in Glen Ellyn, IL. Sue performed special procedures including her favorite work, breast core biopsies, assisting in saving women’s lives. Sue’s world revolved around her family. She worked side by side with her Mom and Dad in the garden on the Glynn farm. She loved to travel with Gary and took many cruises throughout the world. Sue spent much time with her children and grandchildren sharing her love, talents, and wisdom. She never missed a birthday or a special occasion.

Sue also loved her church family and the work they do to serve others. The only thing that could pull her away from her grandkids was Third Tuesday Suppers. She would arrange her travel to always be back by the third Tuesday of each month so she could assist serving free meals to the community. Sue is survived by her mother Betty (nee Williams) Glynn, husband Gary Staponkus, children Eric (Jessica) Staponkus of Cary, NC, Brett Staponkus of Cary, NC, grandchildren Elise, Alex, Elliott Staponkus of Cary, NC, siblings Lloyd (Susan) Glynn of Arbor Vitae, WI, Greg (Judith) Staponkus of Elkhorn, WI, nieces & nephews Jeremy (Cydne) Glynn of Minneapolis, MN, Mary jane Glynn of Minneapolis, MN, Carrie (Brett) Kudick of New Lisbon WI, Olivia, Nicholas, & Anna Kudick of New Lisbon, WI. She is preceded in death by her father Don Glynn.

A celebration of Sue’s life will take place at the United Methodist Church of Geneva on Saturday, January 13th. The family will receive visitors from 9:30am-11:00am with a service of remembrance beginning at 11:00am. A reception will be held immediately afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to; UMC of Geneva Third Tuesday Supper Fund, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
