Born “to end the war” on March 8, 1945, Susan Rose Hamill (Passaro) passed away November 30, 2023, in St. Charles.  She is survived by John, her adoring husband of 56 years and lifelong love, daughters Patricia Bryan (John) and Cynthia, son John (Rammina), and grandchildren Johnny, Kiera, Sophia, Julia, and Jack.

Susan lived a full life, with a childhood in New York, weekends in the “country,” free time with feet in the Jones Beach sand, boating on the Great South Bay, vacations traveling cross-country in a family van, and homes in New York, Houston, and St. Charles for 37 years.  A gifted educator, she taught young children wherever she lived, including for years at St. Peter Catholic School in Geneva.  She was Roman Catholic and a longtime member of Saint Patrick Parish.

Susan bonded with family and friends through whatever interest could connect them.  She loved gardening and the annual joy of new life.  A cheerleader in high school and college, she bounced at her seat-edge watching her beloved Blackhawks and Fighting Irish.  Sharply intelligent, she was her high school valedictorian and graduated with highest marks from Hofstra, and she loved how word puzzles could cement personal bridges to those she cherished across the country.  She was an extraordinary grandmother, a devotion reaffirmed by collages throughout her home and “Gaga’s” effervescent “fairy garden.”  She made great friends everywhere.

Christmas was her greatest passion, centered around her annual presentation of uniquely selected ornaments for each family member.  It was a wonderful life.

Dec. 5, Wake at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva, 4 pm to 8 pm, with eulogy at 7:00 pm.  Dec. 6, Visitation 9 am – 10 am and then Mass at 10:00 am, at Saint Patrick Church, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations be made to Sisters of the Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Indiana.  http://www.cscsisters.org/donate

"Dear John & Family, Kevin and I are thankful for our lasting friendship. So enjoyed our luncheon at your home June of 2021. Sue was natural making many friends wherever she lived. God gave her many talents, super mom, grandmother, love of teacher to little ones, creative playing piano and many handmade crafts. Can’t forget her Italian cooking and biscotti cookies. We are blessed to have Sue’s homemade ornaments on our Christmas tree. She will never be forgotten. Beloved Sue, Rest In Peace! Our love always, Joan & Kevin Grajek Kingwood, TX."
