William “Bill” Stanton Van Nortwick, of Geneva, IL and Ephraim, WI died peacefully at home in Geneva surrounded by his loving family on July 4, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. The son of John Van Nortwick and Louise Stanton, Bill was born on July 26, 1952 at Community
Hospital in Geneva.

After attending Kent School in Kent, CT Bill graduated with a BA from The Johns Hopkins University and later earned an MBA from Loyola University in Baltimore, MD. On November 5, 1983 he married Jane Allen Suthers at St. Timothy’s Church in Baltimore. Together they had two sons; Thomas and Peter.

Bill started a 45-year career in the investment business with Alex. Brown & Sons in Baltimore and San Francisco before joining their Chicago office. He later joined William Blair & Company in Chicago, where he spent the last 17 years of his career. Bill maintained an active social calendar and a long list of hobbies. He enjoyed playing golf and paddle tennis at the Geneva Golf Club, attending performances of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and driving his vintage sportscars. He was also a longtime fan and attendee of Northwestern Football and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bill maintained long associations with and served on the boards of the Midwest Porsche 356 Club, the Vintage Sportscar Club, and the Geneva Golf Club. He was also an active member of Fuelfed and frequented their Coffee and Classics events. Most recently he had followed through on his desire to learn sailing through lessons at the Ephraim Yacht Club. Bill will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, undying loyalty to family and friends, quick sense of humor, and a smile that could light up a room.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, sons Thomas & Peter; siblings John (Sonja) Van Nortwick, Tina Demchak, Lyndon Clemens Joiner(Brian), Hays Stone, Thomas (Mary) Van Nortwick, Phil (Diane) Newton, and Sally (William) Fairbanks, and innumerable cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 29 th at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Geneva immediately followed by a joyful celebration of Bill’s life at the Dunham Woods Riding Club in Wayne.
