William George Cummins passed away peacefully on 11/22/2024 at the age of 81. He was born on August 24, 1943 at St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas and Marie Cummins (Tresch).
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 53 years Dawn Marie Cummins (Hawkinson). Bill and Dawn had seven children: Brett (Denise), Bryan (Dawn), Rory, Kelly Chally (Mike), Shane, Shannon Ross (Daniel) and Kevin (Megan). Bill had 19 grandchildren: Madelyn, Isabella, Lilian, Gabriela, Colt, Sophia, Malachi, Selah, Landon, Nolan, Weston, Mathias, Grayson, Austin, Aria, Heidi, Shiloh, Capri and Parker. Bill is also survived by his brother and 3 sisters: Arlene Landberg (Keith), Carol (Greg Podzinski), Tom (Lisa), and Shaunasea Maserra. Bill also has countless nieces and nephews who have many fond memories of their uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Marie and his brother Jack.
Bill attended Catholic school in Chicago and throughout his time in school Bill served as an altar boy and aspired to become a priest. That ended in his sophomore year when he developed pneumonia and had to drop out of Quigley seminary high school. He later graduated from Calumet High School. As a student, Bill excelled in art and music. He was an extremely talented clarinet player during his school years.
After graduation, Bill worked in the family business as a florist at Swaby’s Flower Shop in St. Charles. He had a keen eye and imagination for floral design and continued with that passion as a hobby throughout his life. He also enlisted in the Army Reserves and served for 6 years as a combat medic.
After Swaby’s, Bill was hired as a package car driver for UPS in 1973. Anyone that knew and worked with Bill admired his work ethic and character. He remained employed with UPS until 2005 when he retired and had accumulated 31 years of safe driving and a member of the UPS driver’s circle of honor.
Bill grew up on the southside of Chicago and did not cheer for the southside baseball team, but rather the northside – Chicago Cubs. He remained a Cubs fan his entire life and endured many years of headaches and heartbreaks. That all ended in 2016, and Bill celebrated that elusive world series game 7 the only way he could imagine, with his kids.
Bill was also an avid fan of Elvis Presley and made sure all of his kids listened to Elvis throughout their childhood. Bill fulfilled his dream of visiting Graceland in 2020.
Bill will be remembered for his wit, humor and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

"Dawn and family. Very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I lived in North Aurora, just a couple of miles from Bill. We were in package car and feeder together. We used to talk about the floral business. My wife managed Robbins Flowers in Batavia in the 90's. Bill didn't suffer fools gladly and always told it like it was."
