William Richard “Dick” Floyd, a devoted husband and father, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 85 in Geneva, Illinois, where he resided with his wife, Cynthia, for over 35 years.
Born on August 15, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Dick led a full life shaped by his family, avid reading, career, and friends. A graduate of Southern Methodist University, he served in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant E5. In Dallas, Texas, he met Cynthia, and they shared a 59-year marriage. After relocating to Illinois from Texas, they created a home filled with laughter, good times, and lasting memories.
Known for his silver “Phil Donahue” hair and photogenic smile, Dick was a familiar and friendly presence. He enjoyed reading mystery novels and biographies, bowling, researching genealogy to uncover family stories, tending to his garden flowers, listening to music, and watching musicals and plays, a passion developed through high school and college speech and drama. He especially cherished spending time with his granddaughters, a joy that brought him immense happiness.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, William Odis Floyd; his mother, Dorothy Looney, and her husband, Matthew Looney; and his sister, Phyllis Floyd. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Floyd; his children, Richard, Brian (Rebecca), and Patrick; his grandchildren, Cassie and Audrey; and his sister, Barbara Griego (Leo).
Future memorial arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dick’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org. To share an online condolence or remembrance, please visit www.yursfuneralhomes.com.
Dick’s wit, warmth, and memorable smile will be missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in his family and friends

Judy from Dallas, TX

"Oh, Cynthia, I am so sad to see that you have lost Dick! I didn't know about the Parkinson. We touched occasionally via FB, but always cheerfully. The Widow club is certainly not a choice you want. I pray peace and wonderful memories for you."

Dave Plews from Batavia, IL, AK

"Dick was a real gentleman. He bowled with our team for many years at Funway. I have thought of him many times after he left the senior league. Dick would often be pur anchor bowler and would finish strong to lead us to victory. I miss him very much."
