Alison “Jane” Michaelis was born in Bristol, England, in 1961. An overachiever from a young age, she served as deputy head girl of her secondary school and earned a law degree from Corpus Christi College at Oxford University. Shortly after graduating, she moved to New York City, where she became one of the youngest vice presidents in Swiss Bank’s history. In the years that followed, her focus shifted to family as she relocated across the United States — from New Jersey to Dallas, San Francisco, and finally St Charles, IL, where she permanently settled herself.

For over twenty years, our mother ran an in-home care company, helping elderly clients remain in the comfort of their own homes while receiving assistance with daily tasks. She loved her clients like a second family, and her work brought her a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment. Even when she needed help herself, she was often leaving doctors and nurses with “proper” tea bags and advice on how to solve crosswords.

Our mother was very active online and had a community of close friends in a game called June’s Journey. If you were her friend from there and this is how you are discovering her loss we are so deeply sorry. Please know that your friendship and the community you shared meant the world to her. She often spoke of you with love and held you all close to her heart, like family.

Mom if you are reading this from somewhere else please accept our apologies for any grammatical mistakes as you are the one we would have asked to proofread for us. It is our deepest wish that on the other side your mom is waiting for you to show you around with your dog Oliver.

Our mom loved solving puzzles, cups of tea and people. If she knew you for years or minutes she probably loved you and there was nothing you could do about it. Her stories will live on through her three kids, friends, son-in-law, sister and the one she loved most, her grandson. A celebration of her life will take place December 8th 2024 12-4pm at Yurs in St. Charles. For further information please call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles 630-584-0060
