Anita Smigiel (Roszkowski) of South Elgin, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. She was born on July 26, 1931, in Chicago. She was the second oldest of five children of Mae & Harry Roszkowski. She was married to the love of her life, Thomas Smigiel on June 9, 1951. Tom passed away on April 9, 1990.
Tom and Anita had four loving children: Allan, Robert (Susan), Joannie (Art) Niwinski and LuAnn (Tom) Verstat. Granny had eight wonderful grandchildren, Dana (Mike) Gerlach, Devin (Jamie) Jannotta, Lauren (Eric) Hill, Robbie Smigiel, Eric (Julia) Niwinski, Kelly (Zach) Kacprowicz, Jenny Niwinski and Bryan Verstat. She was blessed with five great grandchildren Declan, Keagan, Noah, Kinlee, and Emma.
She is survived by two sister-in-laws Dorothy Rusch, Lois Roszkowski, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides her husband Tom, her parents, her brothers Jerome Rusch and Richard Roszkowski, her sister Joan Roszkowski and Barbara Froelich, her nephew James Rusch all preceded her in passing.
Anita loved Holiday Shores in Wisconsin Dells. Every year for the summer she would spend her time there. She loved her puzzles, boating, Noah’s Ark, sitting on her deck looking at the water, and waving to people as they went by. There are many wonderful memories of our family and friends spending time together.
Anita moved to Heritage Woods to continue her independence. She loved getting three hot meals a day, people to talk to, and became the BINGO queen.
On February 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., visitation will be at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main Street, St Charles. On February 16 at 9:30 a.m. we will gather at Yurs then we will proceed to St. Patrick’s Church, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles for a mass at 10:30 a.m. We will say our final goodbyes at St. Patrick’s. Burial will be private at St. Michael Cemetery in Palatine.

"I am so sorry to hear of Anita’s passing. I volunteered with her at Shop & Share in Elgin for many years. She was a delightful co-worker. She was very caring and always quick with a warm smile when greeting you. We were all so lucky to have known her. May she Rest In Peace."
Louise Kopp from ADDISON, IL
"I first met Anita when I started working for Dr. Tom in Elmhurst a short 37 years ago. She was like a second Mother to me . We shared so many great memories in that time. I will always remember her infectious laugh and all the life advice she gave me. She was a true treasure and my life has been enriched so much for having known her. She will be missed terribly. I hope you all find comfort in your memories of her."
Glenn and Nancy Smagacz from Salem, SC
"We are so sorry for your loss. Anita was always full of energy and smiling or laughing, usually both! We would look forward to seeing Aunt Anita and Uncle Tom and the family whenever we’d all get together. Know that we are thinking about you all during this difficult time."

"Dear Allan, Robert, Joannie, LuAnn, and Family,As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus at Saint Viator High School, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator High School community. Our hearts go out to you as you begin your journey of grief. Know that you are in our prayers as you share the stories...laugh and cry...and find ways to celebrate the life of your mother and the love you shared. As I read the posts on the Tribute Wall and the obituary for this "caring" woman who was a "true treasuer," loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, I was reminded of an adaptation of a reading in the book of Sirach.“Let us praise an illustrious woman, faithful to her family and friends, strong in her love. At peace in her heart and her world, she has left us her good name, and we recount her life of praiseworthy deeds. A generous woman her good works will never be forgotten. Among her family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of her…. Her name lives on from generation to generation. We gather to sing her praises. We proclaim her wisdom and love of life all our days.”May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you! May the knowledge your mother, lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope! Take care and God bless you with the gifts you most need! JudithJudith Wampach Amberg Saint Viator High School Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus"
