Matthys, Anne L.

Anne Matthys, 94, known to all as Annie, died peacefully on November 20, 2021. She was an enthusiastic and beloved resident of St. Charles, where she lived in the same little home for nearly 70 years. After she was widowed in 1959, Annie worked at the Burger’s and Bagge’s drugstore lunch counters before settling in for 38 years as head cashier at Grimm’s, where she greeted everyone with her bright smile and a cheerful word. Faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, ever-optimistic Cubs fan, fancier of fried chicken and any kind of chocolate, and drinker of a never-ending cup of black coffee, Annie never met a stranger. Born on March 4, 1927, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; two infant sons, Robert and Steven; her parents, Peter and Alice Peterson; and all of her brothers and sisters—Ralph, Fern, Raymond, Harold, Josephine, Bernice, Mary, Allen, and Peter. She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Curran, and her grandchildren John Michael and Robin Curran, who brought the greatest joy to her life.  Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday November 24, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church St. Charles.  Burial will be a Union Cemetery St. Charles. For information please call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles.  630-584-0060

"Sending my deepest condolences to the Curran Family May God be with them in their time of sorrow. I met Annie through her wonderful daughter Susan. The first day I met Annie I just fell in love with her beautiful smile and warm hearted personality, I felt like I knew her a life time. I loved when her and I and Susan would go for breakfast early on a Saturday morning and Annie would tell stories of earlier times in her life, I could listen to her all day we would laugh and sometimes bring a tear to our eyes. She was a beautiful soul and has really left a n impact on me on how to love and cherish everyone in your life, because that's what Annie did, she loved everyone !!! Heaven has gained a wonderful Angel and I know she will be looking down on her loved ones and letting them know she is home now with God. I Love you Annie I will never forget you. Rest In Peace my Angel !!!"
