It is with profound sadness that the family of Austin T “Auggie” Griffin, 24, of Saint Charles/Chicago, IL announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 17, after a long, bravely fought battle with cancer. He was deeply loved and survived by his parents, Frank Griffin, Jill Burnidge Griffin, and sister Jordan (Tristan) Elias.

Austin was an extremely competitive athlete, earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 8, and lettered in both football and lacrosse. Austin’s talents went beyond the athletic field where he was a self-taught poet/musician and Mycophile. He graduated St. Charles East in 2016 before attending the University of South Carolina on scholarship.

Austin was a spiritualist and his protectiveness of all animals, and the environment was reflected in his healthy lifestyle. He loved to travel, and his exploration of new cultures exposed him to meditation and a kind of mindfulness that allowed him to improve himself and make the world a better place.

Most importantly, Austin was a fierce friend, a strong listener, and his friendships were meaningful and powerful with an uncanny ability to make everyone feel comfortable and appreciated. He is immensely loved and left an impact on anyone who was lucky enough to be in his endearing presence.

Survived by Grandparents, Roger Burnidge, Carol and Jerry Boose, and Frank Griffin Sr., as well as his loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by Grandmothers Donna Burnidge and Carmen Griffin.

A Gathering and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 13 at Oscar Swan Country Inn, 1800 West State Street, Geneva, IL from 2-5 pm (Open House). The main venue will be outdoors, please dress accordingly. All are welcome to come celebrate Austin’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Austin’s name can be made to Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S La Fox Street South Elgin 60177 or visit www.ahconnects.org. Austin was a big supporter of Anderson Animal Shelter, where he adopted his beloved cat, Nala. Or Cal’s Angels, 222 W. Main Street, Unit 3B, St. Charles IL 60175 or visit www.calsangels.org
